The Czech company Detoa was founded by Johann Schowanek in 1908. The factory began producing wooden beads, buttons, and other small turned parts. The company soon became the most important manufacturer in this field in Europe. In 1927, the product range was expanded to include wooden toys, which boosted the company's reputation.
After 1945, the factory began producing piano mechanisms, later adding grand piano mechanisms and keyboards. Today, the factory is the largest and oldest manufacturer of wooden toys, board game components, wooden beads, and piano and grand piano mechanisms and keyboards in the Czech Republic.

Our entire range of wooden toys from Detoa
Wooden toys are made from high-quality wood harvested in the mountainous regions of Central Europe. Only high-quality, certified, and environmentally friendly paints and varnishes that comply with the EN 71 standard and do not harm the environment are used for coloring. Because the toys are intended primarily for the youngest children, special attention is paid to the technological process and assembly, which guarantees the consistent high quality of our products.
Detoa wooden toys are among the highest quality and most aesthetically pleasing wooden toys currently available on the European and domestic markets. By purchasing our toys, you will help your children develop their motor skills, aesthetic sense, and a positive relationship with natural materials—wood. Several generations have returned to Detoa toys. Grandparents, parents—they all grew up with our Schowanek, Tofa, and DETOA toys.
Production process
Quality
Detoa traditionally manufactures all wooden toys in-house. The products are labeled "Made in the Czech Republic." From order placement to completion, all products are strictly inspected, thus guaranteeing a high standard of quality.
Environment
The goal is to preserve and protect the environment, and Deta has taken all necessary measures to achieve this. It only processes wood from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, giving preference to hornbeam, beech, and maple. Therefore, in order to ensure that no more wood is cut down than can grow back, it supports forestry operations that work with PEFC/FSC certification – wood labeling. The wood waste generated during production is used to supply heat to the factory and households in the vicinity of the factory. Production processes are constantly being improved and monitored, which brings further energy savings and further reduces CO2 emissions.

Surface
treatment
DETOA uses only natural-based paints and varnishes – environmentally friendly and compliant with European standard EN 71. Colorful images are printed on the wood using a special printing process – this procedure achieves a unique colorfulness and surface durability.
Safety
DETOA toys comply with current European requirements and international safety standards. Detoa products are thoroughly tested during the development process in accordance with toy standards. Wooden toys must comply with European standard EN 71, and the test results are marked with a safety label.
Detoa wooden toys are made from high-quality, hard deciduous wood—maple, beech, and hornbeam—which is harvested mainly in the mountainous regions of Central Europe. The wood from these areas, which are free from industrial emissions, is of high quality and guarantees us the maximum possible yield. Immediately after felling, the logs are transported to our handling warehouse, where they are protected against mold and discoloration exclusively by continuous spraying with water. It is not chemically treated or modified in any way. The imported logs are continuously cut into lumber of various thicknesses. The lumber is stacked in piles and naturally dried for 6-18 months. After this natural pre-drying, the wood is cut into blocks and boards of the required dimensions, which are then dried to a moisture content of 7-9% in fully automated drying chambers, which are computer-controlled and operate on the principle of steam drying at elevated temperatures. Only wood without any visible defects is used for further production.
Only high-quality, certified, and environmentally friendly paints and varnishes that comply with the EN 71 standard and are approved for use by children of all ages and do not harm the environment are used for coloring. The adhesives used are purchased from reputable European manufacturers and are also certified for use with small children. Other materials, such as leather, felt, and fabrics, are also subject to strict incoming inspections and meet all safety requirements.
The packaging of our products is fully recyclable. Since 2002, Detoa has been involved in the European packaging recycling system and is authorized to use the Green Dot mark on its products.
