Baryonyx is a species of theropod dinosaur that lived during the Barremian stage of the Early Cretaceous period, approximately 130 to 125 million years ago. The holotype specimen was discovered in 1983 in Surrey, England, and the animal was named Baryonyx, which means "heavy claw" and refers to the very large claw on the animal's first toe.
