New for 2026: The construction of the distinctive diesel-electric T669 from the CKD Prague locomotive factory is based on export orders for six-axle diesel locomotives intended for heavy shunting service in the former Soviet Union and Albania. After completion of the three prototypes, designated ČME for the Soviet Union and T669.0 for the CSD, the locomotives were successfully tested and immediately entered series production. As CKD Prague was fully occupied with export orders at the time, production was transferred to ZTS Dubnica in Slovakia. The excellent running characteristics led to a further order for CSD locomotives in 1967, which entered service as the T669.1 series. Additional locomotives were supplied directly to industrial railway customers. Within a short time, these locomotives became an essential part of all major shunting yards in the USSR and Czechoslovakia. Modifications to the frame allowed the axle load to be reduced on some locomotives. The first locomotive modified in this way, T669 0082, was redesignated as T669 1001.

Based on a precisely manufactured heavy die-cast zinc frame and a motor with two flywheels, the model offers excellent running characteristics and prototype-appropriate pulling power. Four axles are driven. Each bogie has one wheelset fitted with traction tyres to provide additional tractive effort. The two traction tyres are arranged diagonally. The PIKO design features up-to-date technology and is factory-fitted with a modern PSD XP decoder with sound and many functions.
