Shut the Box Dice Game

OBJECT OF THE GAME: The aim of the game is to gradually close as many numbers from 1 to 10 as possible and finish with the lowest total of the numbers that remain open. If a player closes all the numbers, they score 0 points.

GAME SETUP: Each player chooses one coloured row of numbers and leaves all number tiles from 1–10 open. Prepare two dice. The youngest player starts, then play continues clockwise.

HOW TO PLAY: The player whose turn it is rolls both dice and adds the values rolled. They must then close one or more open number tiles whose total matches the dice result. For example, if the dice show 3 and 5, the player can close the number 8, the numbers 3 and 5, or another combination that adds up to 8. They then roll both dice again and continue in the same way. If they cannot make the dice total using the numbers that are still open, their turn ends. The next player then takes their turn.

END OF THE GAME: When a player can no longer use their dice roll, they add up the values of all the numbers that remain open. The other players finish their turns in the same way. The winner is the player with the lowest score. If a player manages to close all the numbers from 1 to 10, they score 0 points and have successfully “shut the box”.
