Rainbow Designs was founded in 1971 by young entrepreneur Mike Mutters. At that time, there was no brand with the word "rainbow" in its name, so he chose this name. Rainbow Designs' first license was with the well-known Disney, for whom they produced fashion jewelry such as brooches, enamel buttons, badges, as well as aprons, backpacks, and belt buckles. After this collaboration, offers poured in, and Rainbow was able to add companies such as Noddy, The Wombles, Flower Fairies, Thomas the Tank Engine, and the classic Winnie the Pooh to its portfolio. In the late 1970s, they produced badges for Buckingham Palace and Queen Elizabeth II under license. Between 1980 and 2010, they continued to collaborate on Paddington Bear, various Beatrix Potter characters, Elmer, and other characters from Sesame Street.
