The 749 series was created in the 1990s by converting the 751 and 752 series locomotives, which were equipped with electric train heating without any significant modifications to the original design. The main reason for this modification was to make Bardotek more economical for use on short passenger trains. Locomotives of this series were used for both passenger and freight transport in the Czech Republic.
