Between 1882 and 1910, approximately 1,550 T3 series locomotives in various designs were delivered to the Prussian State Railways (K.P.E.V.) and other provincial railways. As a Cn2 design type, the M III-4p version of the locomotive had a weight of 36 tons and, with an output of 300 horsepower (PSi), could reach a maximum speed of 40 km/h.
The German Reichsbahn (Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft, DRG) took over 511 units and included them in its fleet under the designation BR 89.70–75. The German State Railways (Deutsche Reichsbahn, DR) operated locomotives of this series on secondary lines and as shunting locomotives in production plants until 1968.
