This diesel-electric universal model locomotive of the Czechoslovak Railways, known as "Bardotka," is a beautiful piece that should not be missing from your collection. Over many years of successful operation, these iconic machines have been given a number of often humorous names. Interestingly, these names vary depending on the region where they appeared over the years. In Prague and Central Bohemia, train drivers call them "zamračené" (cloudy). In South Moravia, they are called "bardotky" because the protruding structure under the front windows resembles the pointed bust of actress Brigitte Bardot. In the Liberec region and northern Bohemia, they were called mračouni, and in the Olomouc region and the Jeseníky Mountains, they were called berty. The word hondy was used to refer to them in the Ostrava depot.

 

Between 1964 and 1971, a total of 230 T 478.1 series locomotives were delivered. The train was heated by a built-in steam boiler. In the 1990s, the steam heating equipment on some locomotives of this series was replaced with electric heating equipment, and the locomotives were redesignated as the 749 series. Over the years, the locomotives underwent several color variations. From the mid-1970s, the first uniform color scheme began to be used for ČSD diesel vehicles. The locomotive body was painted cherry red, and the roof and chassis were painted gray.
