The 749 series was created in the 1990s by rebuilding the 751 and 752 series locomotives, which were equipped with electric heating for train sets without major changes to the original locomotive design. The main reason was to make Bardotek more economical to operate when used on shorter train sets. The locomotives were used for both passenger and freight transport in the Czech Republic.
